Ukrainian Allegedly Raped by Thai Man on Samui Island

A Thai man was arrested after he allegedly raped a Ukrainian woman on Samui Island in Surat Thani.

The Bo Phut Police told the Phuket Express that on July 8th of this month a 32 year-old Ukrainian filed a report to police. She told police that a Thai man raped her at the Thong Son Beach at 9:00 A.M.. Police tracked down the suspect from CCTV footage before they successfully identified him. The Ukrainian woman then confirmed that this was the suspect who raped her.

On Sunday (July 14th) an arrest warrant was issued by the Samui Provincial Court. They arrested the suspect, identified only as Mr. Natthaphong, 27, in the Bo Phut sub-district, Samui district. He admitted to police that he had sexual relations with the Ukrainian woman but he claimed he did not rape her. He claimed that the Ukrainian woman consented to have sexual relations with him.

Natthaphong was taken to the Bo Phut Police Station to face a charge of rape as police continue to investigate.
