Phuket Old Town Rainbow Crosswalk to Be Removed After Multiple Accidents

Phuket-

The rainbow crosswalk at the Chartered Bank Intersection in Phuket Old Town is set to be erased following several reported road accidents.

Pedestrians visiting the intersection for photos have been struck by vehicles and motorbike riders have slipped on the rainbow crosswalk in recent days. Fortunately, injuries have been minor.

Phuket City Mayor Mr. Saroj Angkanapilas confirmed that the decision to remove the rainbow crosswalk has been made. The work will be carried out at night to minimize traffic disruption and is expected to take approximately four nights. The city apologizes for any inconvenience caused.

The rainbow crosswalk was originally painted in May 2024 for Phuket Pride.

The city confirmed the removal has nothing to do with any negative feedback from non LGBTQI+ groups and was purely a safety measure.

The “Discover Phuket PRIDE 2024” will open a space for the LGBTQ+ community both local and international.
