Phuket Parade Festival Showcases Peranakan Culture and Competes for World’s Best Parade Award

On June 22nd, 2024, Mr. Sophon Suwannarat, the Governor of Phuket, along with relevant agencies and over 1,600 participants, led a grand parade along Phang Nga Road, Thalang Road, and Phuket Road, covering a distance of 1.2 kilometers.

The parade festival, scheduled from June 22nd to 23rd, aims to present nominees for the Grand Pinnacle Awards – City Festival in the World Best Parade category by the World International Festivals & Events Association (World IFEA). The results from the World IFEA will be officially announced in August 2024.
Highlights of the parade include Peranakan street performance art by international artists and 20 multicultural parades from 10 other Peranakan cities in Peninsular Malaysia, all centered around the theme of ABUNDANT. Tourists can experience the cultural richness of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Peranakan communities from Phuket and six other provinces along the Andaman Sea.
The event is expected to attract over 15,000 international visitors and generate more than 300 million baht in revenue.
Phuket officials are committed to organizing the event according to international standards, encompassing city logistics, road management, and community relations. The event will also focus on showcasing artistic and cultural heritage while promoting economic sustainability through the New Eco System.
