Two People Arrested after Fishing Illegally at Panwa Cape in Wichit

A Thai man and a Myanmar man were arrested after fishing in a no-fishing area in the Panwa Cape in Wichit.

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they were notified by a volunteer about the illegal fishing. They arrested two suspects identified only as Mr. Pathompong, 21, a Thai national and Mr. Than, 25, a Myanmar national, while fishing near the Marine and Coastal Resources Center (Upper Andaman Sea) which is in a non-fishing area.

Seized from them were several fishing rods. They were taken to the Wichit Police Station to face charges of offending the Phuket Fisheries Rules over Protected Marine Animals which has taken effect since July 31st 2023.
