Turtle Lays Eggs at Beach on Samui Island

Surat Thani –

A sea turtle mother laid eggs at a beach on Samui Island in Surat Thani.

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that on Thursday (June 13th) they were notified that a trace of a sea turtle mother was found on the Thong Nhan Beach in the Maret sub-district, Samui district.

They arrived at the beach and a CCTV camera at the beach showed the Hawksbill sea turtle laying eggs after midnight. The nest was found 19 meters from the shore. Inside the nest were an undisclosed amount of sea turtle eggs.

The area was not affected by seawater or poor weather and the eggs were not removed and counted. The nest is being protected and monitored until the eggs hatch. Officials stated that the baby sea turtles should hatch in about 60 days.
