Phuket’s Biggest Stories From the Past Week: Officers Continue to Crack Down on Illegal Business Nominees, and More

1. An intoxicated American man was arrested after he stole a mobile phone from a female foreigner on Kata Beach.

The foreign woman initially did not want to take legal action against the man because she got her mobile phone back.

2. An intoxicated Russian man who was causing a scene and disturbing the peace at a Phuket hotel was stopped by the Karon Police.

Police easily arrested him because he appeared tired and confused after his previous shouting display. He was taken to the nearby police station for a drug test.

3. The “Discover Phuket PRIDE 2024” will open a space for the LGBTQ+ community both local and international.

Events will take place on June 29th; to promote Phuket as an island which welcomes ‘one and all’ and to boost tourism plus our local economy.

4. The Thai Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has continued a crackdown on what they say is mostly illegal Russians, Pakistanis, and Indians using Thais illegally as business nominees in Phuket.

This has been a major hot story around Thailand, with many foreign business owners reaching out to the news clarifying the legal ways to own a business.

5. A Russian man was arrested at Phuket International Airport for alleged money laundering.
