Thalang –

A 14 year-old rider was pronounced dead at the scene after a BMW collided with his motorbike in the Thep Krasattri sub-district.

The Thalang Police were notified of the accident on Wednesday night (June 5th) on the Thep Krasattri Road north bound lane at a U-turn near a gas station. Emergency responders and the Phuket Express arrived at the scene to find the damaged motorbike and the BMW sedan on the road.

The 14-year-old rider was from Thalang and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld due to his age. The driver of the BMW, identified only as Mr. Phontoe, 40, from Thakua Thung, Phang Nga, presented himself at the Sakoo Police Station which is about 10 kilometers from the scene. Mr. Phontoe had left the BMW at the accident site and left the scene but then presented himself at the police station almost immediately.

The victim’s friend, identified only as Mr. Eakkapong, or Eak, told The Phuket Express that he was driving nearby on another motorbike. Mr. Eak’s motorbike broke down while he was attempting to make a U-turn. The victim and Mr. Eak were trying to figure out the cause of the motorbike mechanical failure when the accident took place.

The Thalang Police have yet to identify possible legal charges for the sedan driver. The Thalang Police Colonel Nikorn Choothong told the Phuket Express that an alcohol test was conducted on Mr. Phontoe but he was not over the legal limit.
