An intoxicated American man was arrested after he stole a mobile phone from a female foreigner on Kata Beach.
A video clip of a foreign man stealing a mobile phone from a foreign woman who went swimming at Karon Beach went viral on social media on Sunday (June 2nd). The Karon Police told the Phuket Express that the man in question is an American tourist who was heavily intoxicated. The foreign woman saw the foreign man steal her mobile phone that she had placed on the beach while she was in the sea near the shore.
She immediately came up from the water to encounter the thief who stubbornly tried to hold onto her phone. Phuket lifeguards rushed to assist her to catch the foreign man and return her phone before they called the police. Many witnesses saw the incident and the suspect was taken to the Karon Police Station.
The foreign woman initially did not want to take legal action against the man because she got her mobile phone back.
However, the Karon Police chose to press charges against the foreign man for being a public nuisance. The names of both foreigners involved were not released by relevant police.
