Koh Samui—
On May 25th, 2024, Bophut police officers detained two foreigners for allegedly modifying their motorbikes’ exhaust pipes, causing noise pollution along Chaweng Beach Road, Koh Samui, Surat Thani.
The police, withholding the names of the suspects, seized the motorbikes to determine if the modifications were legal. This action followed complaints from locals living near Choengmon Beach, who reported frequent disturbances from noisy, reckless motorbike riding by foreigners up to ten times a day.
Initially, police were unable to act due to a lack of evidence. However, residents recorded videos of the offenders, who reportedly responded to the filming with inappropriate gestures. These videos were submitted to the Bophut police on social media, prompting the setting of a police checkpoint.
Further investigation revealed that some of the motorbikes were rented from Phuket. Another bike with a loud exhaust is also under scrutiny, with police working to hold the suspect accountable.
