At 12:00 PM, on May 21st, 2024, the Thai Meteorological Department issued an announcement that Thailand officially entered the rainy season as of May 20th.
According to Thai national media, Ms. Kanwee Sitthicheapak, the Director General of the Meteorological Department, signed an announcement stating that Thailand had ended its summer season and entered the rainy season as of May 20th, 2024.
This was due to the upper regions of Thailand experiencing dense rainfall covering more than 60% of the area for three consecutive days. Additionally, the upper-level winds at an altitude of approximately 1.5 kilometers shifted direction to the southwest, bringing moisture from the Andaman Sea to continuously cover the area of Thailand.
Meanwhile, the upper-level winds at an altitude of approximately 10 kilometers had shifted direction to the east, indicating the onset of the rainy season in Thailand for this year.
The weather would see rainfall covering more than 60% of the area, especially in the upper regions of Thailand. The rainy season was expected to end in mid-October 2024, while rainfall would continue until mid-January 2025 in the southern region.
