Kratom Juice Vendor Arrested in Rassada

Phuket-

A Kratom juice vendor was arrested at a local grocery store in Samkong, Rassada.

A team of Phuket officials from Mueang Phuket District Office raided a local grocery store in Soi Samkong. The raid came after they received complaints from concerned citizens that kratom juice was allegedly being sold to young people and students.

They arrested the grocery store owner who was identified by officials only as a Thai man, 51. Seized from him were 29 bottles of kratom juice which was about 38 liters in total.

The suspect was taken to the Phuket City Police Station.

Officials are warning local groceries in Phuket and Thailand that Kratom juice is not allowed to be an ingredient or mixed in with other food or juice for sale. So, even pure Kratom juice in a bottle is not allowed to be sold, especially on public streets. Kratom was decriminalized in 2021 but is not meant to be mixed into narcotic cocktails, only usage of the leaf is technically legal.

Anyone who breaks the law could be imprisoned for a term from six months to two years or fined from 5,000 Baht to 20,000 baht.

The Phuket Express noted that cough syrup along with Kratom is one of four ingredients that is being used among local teenagers to make a cocktail drug known locally as 4X100 (‘See Koon Roi’).
