Man Mistakes Friend For Animal and Shoots Him to Death while Hunting in Karon

A man was shot dead while he was hunting with his friend at a forest in Karon. He claimed that he mistook his friend for a mouse-deer.

Karon Police Chief Colonel Khundet Na Nongkhai told the Phuket Express that on Wednesday (May 8th) they arrested Mr. Chana Chooluck, 47 at his house in Karon. He is the suspect in the shooting to the death of Mr. Hassachai Khaokem, 40, from Nakhon Si Thammarat at a palm plantation behind the Karon View Point. Mr. Hassachai was found dead on Sunday evening (May 5th).

Mr. Chana admitted to police that he and Mr. Hassachai went hunting together on Saturday morning at 4:00 A.M.. He was on a hill when he saw red eyes above the hill which he thought were that of a mouse-deer. He fired shots before he heard Mr. Haasachai shout out that he was shot. The suspect ran to him and tried to help but it was too late. Chana said he became afraid and ran back home.

Police are investigating the situation and Mr. Chana remains in custody as of press time.
