Top National Thailand Stories From the Past Week: Cabinet Reshuffle, and More

Here is a look at the top NATIONAL Thailand stories, chosen by our Pattaya News/TPN National team, from last week, Monday, April 29th, to Sunday, May 5th, 2024.

They are not in any particular level of importance but are listed in the order of date of publication.

1. The Royal Thai Government Gazette Website published a royal command relieving ministers from their positions and appointing new ones.

The Thai Prime Minister publicly expressed that certain ministerial positions should be adjusted for suitability and to benefit the administration of the country.

2. The Thai Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) publicly revealed yearly statistics of the maximum demand of power, a peak power value consumed during a specific time interval, in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan.

According to the MEA, on April 29th, 2024, between 2:30 to 3:00 PM, the Max. Demand was at 9,802.65 megawatts (MW) considered to be the peak power value of the MEA as of press time.

3. Thai national media reported Sex Worker Statistics by Country and Gender made by the International Union of Sex Workers on the occasion of Labor Day.

Sex workers in Thailand were fighting for the legalization of prostitution for their basic and occupational protection rights.

4. Chokchai police officers received a report of a man accidentally falling into an electrical conduit/well while crossing a road near Soi Lat Phrao 49, Lat Phrao, Bangkok.

The Bureau of Public Works, Bangkok, issued a letter to the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) regarding the suspension of construction of electrical conduits/wells in collaboration with the elevated electric Yellow Line train.

Thai national media reported that the family and relatives of a male victim who fell into an electrical conduit in Bangkok decided to file a lawsuit for 10 million baht in compensation from the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA).

Rest in peace to the victim.

5. Trang local media reported that a long-tailed boat carrying 14 individuals capsized in the Trang Sea, two kilometers away from a seaport in Sikao, Trang, resulting in one casualty.

One of the Thai tourists, publicly identified only as Mrs. Atchara, 68, was later pronounced deceased by physicians as she reportedly fell unconscious while being rescued and had sea water enter her lungs.
