Phuket-

An American man, identified only as Mr. Ali, aged 36, was apprehended by Phuket Immigration officers on Friday, May 3rd, at approximately 11:00 A.M.

The arrest took place in the parking area of a department store located in Wichit, Phuket. This action followed a report to the Chalong Police alleging that Mr. Ali had committed theft and possibly assault against a Thai woman in Chalong on April 24th.

He was subsequently taken to the Chalong Police Station to face charges related to theft committed at night. However, there was no explicit mention of the alleged assault by the officers. It is noted that Mr. Ali had most recently entered Thailand in February with a 30-day visa exemption granted to tourists.

Mr. Ali did not release a public statement or plea in regards to the allegations and it was not known if he had obtained the services of a lawyer as of press time.
