Illegal Cigarettes and Whisky Worth 500 Million Baht Seized in Phuket

Officials from Bangkok raided six places in Phuket where they have seized illegal cigarettes and whisky which is estimated to have a total value of more than 500 million Baht.

On Wednesday (April 24th) a team of officials from the Department of Provincial Administration in Bangkok came down to Phuket. Joining them was the Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat.

They searched six targeted places in Phuket Town, Rassada, and Kathu. Three of those places were found opened as pet food shops in front and sold illegal E-cigarettes, unpaid tax cigarettes, and whisky inside the venue. Some shops were only 50 meters from schools and other shops were in centers of economic areas.

The Six places were located below and identified by the Phuket Governor and relevant law enforcement:

  1. DC Pet Shop Yaowarad Branch on the Yaowarad Road in Talad Yai sub-district, Phuket Town.
  2. DC Pet Shop Kuku Branch in Rassada, Mueang Phuket district.
  3. DC Pet Shop Sikor Branch in Kathu.
  4. Unaddressed warehouse in Soi Mae Klin on the Rassada Nusorn Road in Rassada, Mueang Phuket.
  5. Booze Shop on the Dilok Uthit Road in Talad Yai, Phuket Town.
  6. Cigarette shop at the Down Town Market on the Ranong Road in Talad Nuea sub-district, Phuket Town.

Officials did not mention if anyone was arrested and charged in the raids other than naming the locations. They also did not reveal how they identified the locations.
