An illegal Russian tour guide was arrested in Maikhao sub-district on Tuesday (April 2nd).
The Phuket Tourist Police told the Phuket Express that at 8:00 A.M. they arrested a suspect identified only as MR. ANDREI, 42, Russian national. He was arrested at a pier near the local beach called Pak Phra Beach in the Mai Khao sub-district, Thalang.
He was taken to the Tha Chatchai Police Station to face charges of being an illegal tour guide as well as being a foreigner doing a protected job (tour guide). The Phuket Express notes that tour guides are a protected occupation in Thailand and that work permits and visas are unavailable to foreigners for this job.
