Illegal Russian Tour Guide Arrested in Thalang

An illegal Russian tour guide was arrested in Mai Khao on Friday (March 22nd).

The Phuket Tourist Police told the Phuket Express that at 8:00 A.M. on the day in question they arrested a suspect identified only as MR. IAKHIA, 28, Russian national. He was arrested at a pier near the local beach called Pak Phra Beach in the Mai Khao sub-district, Thalang.

He was taken to the Tha Chatchai Police Station to face charges of being an illegal tour guide as well as being a foreigner doing a protected job (tour guide). The Phuket Express notes that tour guides are a protected occupation in Thailand and that work permits and visas are unavailable to foreigners for this job.
