Phuket Overstay Incident: Australian Man Arrested After Escaping Hospital

Phuket-

On Wednesday, March 6th, the Phuket Provincial Police apprehended a 26-year-old Australian man at a hotel near the Sri Kor Intersection in Kathu. The man had reportedly overstayed his visa by 34 days.

The backstory involves a road accident that occurred on January 31st, 2024, between the Australian man and a Thai individual. Both parties sustained injuries. Following the accident, the Australian man received medical treatment at a hospital in Phuket City. However, he managed to escape from the hospital before settling his bill.

The hospital has now filed a report against him, seeking payment of 178,185 baht for his treatment. Additionally, the Australian man allegedly evaded paying the Thai victim, as the police were unable to contact him at the accident scene before his arrest.

The suspect, who was not identified by police by name, was attempting to evade authorities over the bill and medical claims by the Thai victim and had been on overstay as a result.
