UPDATE: Phuket Motorbike Taxi Rider Arrested After Allegedly Sexually Assaulting German Tourist

An 18-year-old motorbike taxi rider was arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted a German tourist in Phuket.

According to the tourist, along the way the taxi rider asked the German tourist’s name before suddenly kissing her cheek without warning. He also allegedly touched her genitals and took her hand to touch his own genitals.

Now for the update:

The Phuket City Police told the Phuket Express on Monday (February 26^th) that they had arrested Mr. Pongpat Klaithonglam, 18, from Nakhon Si Thammarat. He was arrested at a rental room in Soi Surin 2 in Talad Yai sub-district, Phuket Town.

Pongpat has denied the accusation put forward by the German tourist to police. He said he did not sexually assault her. However, CCTV footage allegedly shows evidence of the incident while they were on a motorbike said Phuket police.

The German tourist was crying when she identified Pongpat to the police as the taxi motorbike rider who allegedly sexually assaulted her. She said she didn’t want to see his face as she is still in shock about the incident.

The Phuket City Police told the Phuket Express that they are collecting more evidence to press charges upon Pongpat for indecency and sexual assault.
