Rawai-

An illegal Ukrainian tour guide was arrested at an elephant camp in Rawai, Mueang Phuket.

The Phuket Tourist Police told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they arrested a 35-year old Ukrainian man at an elephant camp on Wiset Road. He was found while acting as a tour guide for Russian tourists.

He was taken to Chalong Police Station to face charges of being an illegal tour guide and being a foreigner doing a protected job (tour guide).

The Phuket Express notes that tour guides are a protected occupation in Thailand and that work permits and visas are unavailable to foreigners for this job.
