UPDATE: Five Foreign Suspects Allegedly Attempting to Extort Russians in Phuket in Custody

Five foreign suspects are being held in custody after they were allegedly involved in an extortion attempt on a Russian couple for crypto-currency .

A group of Russian men allegedly threatened a Russian couple and took them onto a van against their will to try to extort them for 30 million Baht in Bitcoins in Phuket.

Now for the update:

The Phuket Provincial Police told the Phuket Express that five male foreign suspects are now in custody. Two of them were caught at the Phuket International Airport.

Police only named the last suspect detained as Mr. Alan. Police found a knife and scissors in his SUV. It has been reported by the Associated Thai Press that he is the one who ordered the extortion attempt upon the Russian couple. He was caught at a massage shop in Patong.

All five foreign suspects have not released any statements and as of press time are reportedly not speaking to law enforcement at all. Police are collecting more evidence in order to be able to request further legal action for the suspects.

It was not known if any of the suspects had immediate legal representation or if they were seeking a lawyer.
