Phatthalung Suffers Worst Flooding in 43 Years

Phatthalung, Southern Thailand–

Phatthalung has suffered its worst flooding in 43 years, said local residents.

After heavy rain for many hours on Thursday (January 25th), flash floods from the Banthat mountain range hit Phatthalung. Seven villages and many animal farms have been flooded.

More than 500 families are suffering from the effects of the flood especially in the Kong Hra, Sri Nakharin, and Tamod districts. Water levels were up to four meters high in the Lamsin sub-district, Sri Nakharin where local roads were blocked by the floods.

Mr. Somkit Chongpitak, 69, a local of the area said that they had a large flood 43 years ago but this time is even worse than before.

Local authorities inspected flooded areas in the province and assisted flood victims.
