Huge Leatherback Sea Turtle Found Dead in a Fishing Net on a Beach in Phang Nga

A massive leatherback sea turtle was found dead entangled in a fishing net on a beach in the Thai Mueang district.

The head of the Khao Lampi Hat Thai Mueang National Park, Mr. Prarop Plaengngam, told the Phuket Express that on Monday (January 22nd) they were notified from a local resident that a sea turtle was found dead on a beach in the national park area.

They went to the beach to find the large female leatherback sea turtle. She was 181 centimeters long and the turtle has started to decompose. A fishing net was found entangled around the turtle which the park officials believe is the cause of death.

The leatherback sea turtle is at risk of extinction and is listed as a protected animals in Thailand.
