Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin embarked on a crucial mission to Switzerland today, January 15th, to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.

From January 15th-19th, Mr. Srettha will join global leaders and business titans in the forum under the theme “Rebuilding Trust” aimed at fostering trust among nations to address the challenges of the current global landscape.

Joining him is a high-powered delegation of cabinet ministers, including Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara and Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit. This marks Mr. Srettha’s first European visit since becoming Thailand’s Prime Minister and the first time in 12 years a Thai leader has graced the WEF with their presence.

The WEF presents a critical platform for Mr. Srettha to showcase Thailand’s commitment to collaboration and global engagement. According to reports, the PM and his ministers will delve into four key workstreams – cooperation and security, economic growth, AI’s role in society and the economy, and climate solutions. However, their primary focus will be on attracting investment for the country’s Land Bridge megaproject, which is envisioned as a game-changer for Thailand’s logistics and economic landscape.

This 1 trillion-baht behemoth aims to connect the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand through deep-sea ports, highways, and railways. By diverting traffic from the congested Malacca Strait, the Land Bridge promises to boost regional trade and establish Thailand as a key logistics hub. Mr. Srettha and his team will leverage the WEF to woo potential investors and present the project’s potential for lucrative returns.
