Thailand to Exercise Permanently Waiving Visa With China Starting March 1st of 2024 to Boost Tourism and Economy

At 10:10 AM, on January 2nd, 2024, Mr. Srettha Thavisin, the Thai Prime Minister, publicly revealed a conclusion after the Thai cabinet meeting regarding stimulating international tourism and the Thai national economy.

The Thai government considered an adjustment on excise taxes and duties structures, including tax-free Thai local alcoholic beverages and a review of related laws by the Thai Excise Department to support Thai local alcoholic beverages.

Moreover, regarding the exemption of visas for Chinese tourists, which was due to expire on February 29th, 2024, the Thai government has good news to announce that both countries’ visas should be waived mutually. China considered permanently waiving visas starting March 1st, 2024, allowing reciprocal visa-free travel between both countries.

Previously, China exempted visas for five countries temporarily excluding Thailand.

Srettha said that it was significant for tourists who wished to travel to Thailand and China. The Thai Department of Public Relations and relevant agencies were issued an order to prepare for opening the border and ensure good care of tourists, remarked the Thai Prime Minister.
