The Thai Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported on Tuesday (January 2nd), a total of 190 deaths, 1,574 injuries, and 1,570 road accidents in four days (December 29th, 2023 – January 1st, 2024) of the New Year Seven Days Road Safety campaign in Thailand (December 29th, 2023 to January 4th, 2024).
The highest total number in four days (December 29th, 2023 – January 1st, 2024) of road accidents and injuries was in Kanchanaburi (57 times, 56 injuries). The highest fatalities were in Bangkok (13 deaths).
The DDPM reported on the fourth day of the campaign (January 1st) which was the New Year that there were 62 deaths and 422 injuries in 419 road accidents.
Accidents were mostly caused by excessive speeding (39.14%), followed by drunk driving (30.55%).
Most accidents involved motorbikes (86.51%). Thirty-nine percent of road accidents occurred most on national highways. Most accidents occurred between 0:01 A.M. to 0:10 A.M. (10.26%).
The highest number of accidents were in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Songkhla (15 times). The highest number of injuries was in Prachuap Khiri Khan (22 injuries). The province with the highest number of fatalities was Bangkok (5 deaths).
