Russian Man Causing a Public Nuisance Briefly Detained at Phuket International Airport

Phuket –

A Russian man who was shirtless and shoeless was found walking around the Phuket International Airport in a daze, climbing onto shops, causing a public nuisance, and appearing to have mental issues. He was later briefly detained to get him assistance from friends.

The Phuket Tourist Assistance Center (TAC) reports that they were notified of the incident on Monday (December 11th). The Russian man, who according to the TAC seemed to have mental health problems, was found walking around the inside and outside of the airport disoriented, shirtless and shoeless, and acting erratically.

At one point, the Russian man, whose name was withheld for his privacy due to possible psychiatric issues, climbed onto the roof of a shop on the 4th floor of the airport which caused a scene. Security guards at the airport spent a significant amount of time coaxing the man to come down without incident, finally getting a translator and agreeing to contact friends of the man for support.

It was later reported by the TAC that the Russian man had stayed overnight at the airport a day before and appeared to have either missed a flight or had financial problems. Friends of the man were eventually successfully contacted and reportedly were assisting the man to safely get to his final destination.
