Police Involved After Thief Steals from Tourist at Beach in Thalang

Thalang –

Police were working on tracking down a thief after they stole from a tourist who was swimming at a beach in Sakoo.

The Sakoo Police told the Phuket Express that on Monday afternoon (December 11th) they were notified that a thief stole a bag of valuables from an unidentified male foreign tourist at the Nai Yan Beach while he went swimming in the sea. After the tourist came up from the water, his bag had disappeared. Inside his bag was a mobile phone, cash, and his passport.

The tourist traced his mobile phone from a GPS application using a computer and he found that his mobile phone’s location was heading to the Tha Chatchai area. He immediately contacted law enforcement for assistance. Police at the Phuket Checkpoint in Tha Chatchai were contacted and the suspect’s vehicle was found entering into the Mai Khao Sub-district Administrative Office area. When the suspect saw police, the suspect turned to flee.

Police were able to grab the stolen bag but the suspect sped away. Cash inside the bag was gone and no mobile phone was found, although the passport remained. The mobile phone’s location at this time still showed as being active at a forest in Mai Khao. Police finally found the mobile phone and it was returned to the tourist.

The tourist has filed an additional report to the Sakoo Police hoping the suspect is still caught and the cash, the amount of which wasn’t disclosed, is returned.
