18-Year-Old Man Arrested After Stealing Statues From Shrines in Chalong

Chalong –

An 18-year-old man was arrested after he stole ten religious statues from Chinese Shrines in Chalong.

The Chalong Police told the Phuket Express that representatives from two Chinese Shrines in Chalong filed police reports to them earlier this week. They filed the reports to police along with CCTV video evidence. According to the CCTV a male teenager stole nine Chinese religious statues and a Buddha statue from two Chinese shrines. He was wearing a school uniform over which he put a jacket.

Police later arrested the-18-year-old male suspect in Kathu. The teenager told police that he had pawned the statues to pawnshops and that he needed the money to pay for his past debts. All ten religious statues were later returned to the two Chinese shrines.

It is unclear if the teenager will face any charges because his father had already spoken and apologized to representatives from both of the Chinese shrines.

The name of the suspect was not released to the press.
