Three Month Old Baby Seriously Injured after Monkey Attack in Phang Nga

Phang Nga –

A three-months old baby has sustained serious injuries after he was attacked by a monkey in Mueang Phang Nga.

Ms. Jiraphon Galong, 37, a local resident at Baan Koh Mai Pai, Koh Pan Yee sub-district told the Phuket Express that her three month old nephew was being taken care of by relatives because his parents work in Phuket.

While the baby was drinking milk inside the house, a macaque monkey attacked the baby when his relative went to the toilet. Ms. Jiraphon then came into the house and chased the macaque away. They believe that the macaque was trying to take a milk bottle from the baby.

The macaque bit the baby’s head. The baby was rushed to a nearby hospital before being transferred to Vachira Hospital in Phuket as he had sustained severe injuries. The baby is now recovering after a head operation.

The monkey escaped after the incident and it was not immediately clear if officials planned to capture the monkey or identify which monkey specifically attacked the child.
