Narathiwat –
Eight people died including a six-year-old girl while three people have sustained severe injuries including a two-year-old girl after a pickup truck carrying a large family on a trip crashed in the Rueso district.
The Ra-Ngae Police were notified of the accident on Wednesday (October 11th) on Baan Ku Bae Ba Doa in Ma Rue Bo Tok. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the overturned pickup truck embedded with a tree on the roadside. Many injuries and deaths were found inside and outside the pickup truck.
Emergency responders reported eight deaths who were a six-year-old girl, four teenagers, and three adults including the driver. Three others have sustained severe injuries who are a two-year-old girl, and two teenagers. Their names were withheld by police and rescue teams at this time.
Survivors told police that they were coming from La Loh, Rueso on a family trip during the children’s holidays to Narathiwat city. The front right tire wheel reportedly exploded before the pickup truck lost control and crashed into a tree.
TPN Media notes that there have been varying attempts by the Thai government over the years to enforce against riding in the bed of pickup trucks or overloading them with people but they have all failed to pass into firm law or were unenforceable due to anger from rural residents who say this is their primary method of transportation and they cannot afford multiple vehicles.
