Move Forward Leader Pita Resigns

National —

Pita Limjaroenrat has stepped down from his position as the leader of the Move Forward Party, making way for a new leader to take on the role of the opposition leader.

According to the constitution, the opposition leader must be an MP from the largest party within the opposition, which is the Move Forward Party, since it has 151 MPs.

However, Pita’s status as an MP has been put on hold at present, pending a ruling from the Constitutional Court regarding his case related to media shareholding.

Pita emphasized on Facebook that he made this decision after extensive consultations with the party’s executive members and MPs. They collectively recognize the vital importance of the opposition leader’s role in the parliamentary system. This role is crucial for effective government oversight and advocating for necessary reforms, Pita said. He will continue to play a crucial role in the party, however.
