Suspect Arrested in Phuket After Allegedly Raping a 12-Year-Old Girl

Phuket –

A wanted suspect was arrested in Thalang after he allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl in Phatthalung.

Police from the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) told TPN media that earlier this week they have arrested a man identified only as Mr. Somkiet (Sathit) (Age was not given) at a house in Pa Klok. He is being accused of raping a child under 13 years old, trespassing, and using an illegal drug (methamphetamine).

The arrest followed an incident in March 2018 where the suspect, who knew the victim, a 12 year-old girl, went into her house when her parents were not at home. He then allegedly raped the girl. Her father later came back to the house and confronted the suspect.

The father filed a report to the police and the suspect was arrested but he requested bail during the court process which was later granted. However, the suspect then escaped and went into hiding in Phuket for five years before he was arrested.

The suspect remains in custody as of press time.
