Australian Man Dies After Fall From Phuket Airport Car Park

Phuket –

A 50-year-old Australian man died after he fell from the sixth floor of a parking building at the Phuket International Airport.

Captain Suphon Mueangkhai from the Sakoo Police was notified of the incident at 8:30 P.M. on Tuesday night (August 29th). Police, rescue workers, and the Phuket Express arrived at the scene shortly after the initial call.

The body of a foreign man was found on the ground of the parking garage near a motorbike parking area. The body was later identified by police as a 50 year-old Australian man (His name was withheld pending embassy and family notification.) His body was taken to the Vachira Hospital in Phuket Town to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Witnesses told the Phuket Express that they saw the man standing on the sixth floor before he shouted something loudly. People who saw him were shouting and trying to stop him as they were afraid he would jump. However, despite their efforts, the man plunged to his death. It was unclear according to police if he purposely jumped or fell and unfortunately due to language barriers and lack of English speakers present exactly what the man had been shouting had been unclear.

The Phuket Immigration Police told the Phuket Express that the Australian man had arrived at the Phuket International Airport on August 24th 2023.

The Sakoo Police are continuing their investigation and reviewing CCTV footage to see if the man jumped or fell from the building.

TPN Media notes that the deceased appeared to be the same man whose relatives had been asking on social media groups in Phuket about his whereabouts in previous days and expressing concern for his well-being.

TPN Media gives its condolences to the friends and family of the victim.
