A large sea turtle which had been injured and was stuck in a fishing net was rescued from the sea near Thalang.
The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told The Phuket Express that over the past weekend they were notified from staffers at the Sirinat National Park that an injured sea turtle was found stuck in a fishing net in the sea near the Sai Kaew Beach in the Mai Khao sub-district. The sea turtle was safely taken to the nearby beach.
The DMCR arrived at the beach to find a male Olive Ridley sea turtle. He is 64 centimeters long, 65 centimeters wide, and weighs 26 kilograms. His right flipper was cut by the fishing net with a severe wound and he had been bleeding heavily.
The sea turtle was taken to the Sireetarn Marine Endangered Animals Rescue Center for further medical treatment.
