Ten Dead, 118 Injured, 200 Families Suffer After Fireworks Warehouse in Narathiwat Exploded

Narathiwat –

At least ten people have died, 118 people have been injured, and more than 200 families have suffered, many with their homes destroyed, after a fireworks warehouse exploded in the Su-Ngai Kolok district on late Saturday afternoon (July 29th).

The Narathiwat Governor Mr. Sanan Pongaksorn told Thai media, “At least ten people have been pronounced dead, 118 people have been injured, and more than 200 families have suffered by being affected by this massive explosion. There are some people who are stuck inside collapsed houses and buildings waiting for help.”

The Su-Ngai Kolok district Chief Mr. Anirut Bua-Onn added, “The explosion has damaged and destroyed more than a 500 meter radius area near the fireworks warehouse. This area is a popular market and residential area which is why the level of destruction was so high. The Mu Noa Police are collecting evidence and investigating the incident. ”

The cause of the incident is still unclear and it is also not clear if the warehouse was licensed and fully legal to store fireworks in a densely populated area.

This is a developing story and more details may be released as they are made clear by relevant authorities.
