Foreign Tourist Reported Missing After Going Swimming at Freedom Beach in Phuket

Karon –

A male tourist from Senegal has been reported missing after he went swimming in the sea at Freedom Beach in Karon, Phuket.

The Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command was notified of the incident on Friday (July 28th) from the Phuket Tourist Assistance Center (TAC). The tourist, Mr. Cheikhonuna Ba, 22, of Senegalese nationality, has been reported missing after he went swimming at Freedom Beach.

He reportedly went swimming with three other friends in rough waters. Three of them were rescued but Mr. Ba went missing. About ten rescue divers and lifeguards went out to search but failed due to strong winds and waves.

The search will resume when weather conditions permit, but is likely to become a recovery operation versus rescue.
