Thief Fails After Trying to Break Into Bank in Phuket Old Town, Breaks into Bakery Instead

Phuket Old Town –

A wannabe thief failed after trying to break into a bank in Phuket Old Town. The thief then broke into a bakery shop nearby instead.

The Phuket City Police were notified of the incident from a bank manager on the Yaoward Road in Phuket Old Town on Tuesday morning (June 6th).

They and the Phuket Express arrived at the scene. The Phuket City Police told the Phuket Express that on Sunday (June 4th) at 4:00 A.M. the thief broke into the bank from the roof and ceiling before dropping down from a rope. He broke into a document room and bank staffers said there was nothing stolen.

It is believed that the wannabe bank robber sped away after the siren in the bank went off, which had been closed at the time of the potential robbery due to a long holiday weekend. It is unclear why an immediate inspection of the premises did not take place.

The same thief then decided to break into a bakery shop nearby which is about 10 meters from the bank. The thief stole a radio and 630 baht, or about 17 US dollars, in cash from the bakery shop.

The bakery shop owner filed a report to police on Monday (June 5th). The Phuket City Police are still hunting for the suspect.
