Kazakhstani Man Drowns at Kata Beach, Phuket

A Kazakhstani tourist drowned at Kata Beach for reportedly ignoring red flags that declare no swimming is allowed.

The Karon Police were notified from a lifeguard at Kata Beach on Thursday afternoon (June 1st) that they arrived at the scene to find the body of a tourist who was identified by police as Mr. Artur Iskakov, 24, a Kazakhstani national.

Lifeguards told police that they were notified that the tourist was unconscious for about five minutes before they went on a jet-ski to pull the tourist from the water back onto the beach. Emergency responders were then called to the beach. Mr. Iskakov was later pronounced dead at the scene.

There was a red flag on the beach at the time of the incident, which warns tourists not to swim due to strong waves and currents.
