Phuket International Airport has announced that today (May 31st) they are holding a fire drill practice which includes a significant amount of smoke as part of the drill.
The drill today started at 10:00 A.M. until midday near Runway 27. During the practice, a large amount of smoke was sent into the air around the airport. The airport staff apologized for the inconvenience.
The Phuket Express notes that Phuket International Airport has to announce this to the public every time before a fire drill because sometimes local residents were unaware that the situation at the airport was just a practice and had become legitimately alarmed in the past.
These drills are held regularly with ample warnings to the public in the interests of safety at Phuket International Airport.
