Pickup Truck Crashes into Power Pole in Kathu Causing Five Hour Blackout and Road Closures

Kathu –

A pickup truck crashed into a power pole in Kathu causing five hours of blackout and a road was closed in the area.

The Phuket Provincial Electric Authority (PEA) was notified of the accident on Monday night (May 29th) on the Wichit Songkram Road near the Kathu Chinese Shrine. They arrived at the scene to find a pickup truck had crashed into a power pole, causing the pole to be heavily damaged.

PEA staffers told the Phuket Express that they removed the broken power pole and installed a new power pole which took about five hours.

The electrical supply was cut during the repair work to parts of Kathu and the road was temporarily closed to traffic.

It was not immediately clear if the driver in the accident would be charged with damages. They were also not identified by Kathu law enforcement nor was their medical condition following the accident updated to the media.
