Over A Hundred Kilograms of Fish Found Dead at Phuket Lake

Karon –

About 130 kilograms of fish were found dead at a lake in Rawai.

The Phuket Fisheries Chief Mr. Sittiphon Mueangsong told the Phuket Express that this week they inspected the Nai Harn Lake in Rawai after they were notified that many fish were found dead.

From their inspection, fisheries officials found that earlier this week there was significant rain in the Rawai area. The rain had as a result washed dirt and sediment into the lake, polluting the area and reducing available oxygen for marine life.

In addition, the overall weather was sweltering hot this week in Phuket causing the temperature in the lake to immediately change. These factors caused a substantial fish kill, according to Sittiphon. About 130 kilograms of fish were found dead in the lake in total.

The lake is in a closed area in which water had not been released to or from the sea for a long time. As a result, a water gate has been opened to let sea water come into the lake in order to dilute pollution in the future.

The Phuket Fisheries Department has removed the dead fish from the lake.
