Phuket –

Relevant officials have confirmed that tsunami sirens have not malfunctioned after a warning sound came from tsunami warning towers in Kamala, Karon, and Cherng Talay in the middle of the night yesterday, April 27th, 2023.

Our previous story:

The warning sounds were at the same time of an earthquake reported on Sumatra Island at 4.8 richters. However, there is NO tsunami warning from an earthquake.

Now for the update:

The Head of the Phuket Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DDPM) Mr. Udomphon Kan told the Phuket Express that on Thursday night (April 27th) technicians checked devices at the tsunami tower in Kamala, Cherng Talay, and Karon.

They have found nothing that is malfunctioning. There was NO warning from tsunami buoys or warnings from earthquakes that can cause tsunamis. However the DDPM is checking to find other possible causes that made the sirens go off.

Local residents and tourists have been informed about the incident to make sure that they understand what happened with no worries.
