Six People Injured After Small Bus with Foreign Tourists Crashes in Phuket

Six people were injured after a small bus full of foreign tourists crashed at a curve in Wichit, Mueang Phuket.

The Wichit Police were notified of the accident on Monday morning (April 24th) on the Mueang Chao Fa Road in Wichit.

Emergency responders and the Phuket Express arrived at the scene to find the damaged bus on the side of the road. Six unidentified people have sustained minor injuries including foreign tourists. They were taken to a nearby hospital for medical assistance.

The bus driver, Mr. Arnon Channarong, 30, told the Phuket Express that they were heading to Rassada from Patong and he was not familiar with the route. So, he used a GPS navigator on his mobile phone before losing control at a curve.

The Wichit Police told the Phuket Express no alcohol was found in the driver’s breath test but believed be may have been distracted looking at his GPS. No charges were immediately filed by Wichit Police against the driver but could still be forthcoming.

This is not the first recent public transportation crash in Phuket, although most have involved minivans. For instance, this recent minivan crash in Kamala injured two French tourists several weeks ago.

In the middle of March, four foreign tourists were injured when two minivans colided in Patong, as seen here.

Elsewhere in Thaland, in a tragic accident in Nakhon Si Thammarat recently six people were killed and several injured in a minivan accident.
