Body of Fisherman Found After Boat Capsizes During Storm near Samui Island

The body of a missing fisherman was found after a fishing boat capsized during a storm near Samui Island.

The Samui Public Relations Department told the Phuket Express that many local fishing boats were reportedly capsized during heavy storms on Sunday (April 16th).

Four people have been rescued so far. One particular local fishing boat was capsized between Tan Island and Samui Island. The fisherman, Mr. Wiroj Srifah, 51, had previously been reported as missing.

A search was launched by the Marine Police, tour boat operators, and local fishing boats. On Monday (April 17th) they finally identified the sunken boat’s location underwater. The body of Mr. Wiroj was found stuck inside the sunken fishing boat under the sea. Mr. Wiroj had been fishing alone.

Many southern parts of Thailand have been affected from heavy storms on Sunday (April 16th). At least four bodies were found and six people have been rescued after many local fishing boats capsized in Nakhon Si Thammarat during recent heavy storms.

A ferry was partially submerged and damaged after being hit by waves at a pier near Samui Island.

Strong winds during Songkran have damaged the homes of more than 1,700 families in the northeast of Thailand.
