Legal Action Taken Against Ten Illegal Taxi Drivers in Phuket

Phuket –

Legal action is being taken against five illegal taxi drivers and five taxi meter drivers in Phuket.

The Phuket Land Transport Office (PLTO) told the Phuket Express that relevant officials recently set up a checkpoint near Phuket International Airport in Thalang.

Five taxi meter drivers were found not using the fare meter when passengers used their services. Five taxi drivers were also found using personal vehicles to transfer tourists as illegal taxis (Black Plates).

The offending taxi drivers will be fined and their driving licenses will be considered for suspension.

The Phuket Express notes ‘Black Plates’ is a term commonly used by the PLTO to call a personal vehicle (with a white license plate, ironically).
