Thai Army Cracksdown on Karon Umbrella Beach Beds

Karon, Phuket –

The Thai Army and the Navy cracked down on umbrella beach beds on Karon Beach.

On Tuesday (April 4th) a team of officials from Army Region 4 and the Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command inspected Karon Beach, Mueang Phuket District. Army Region 4 officials told the Phuket Express the following:

Beach beds and umbrellas were found outside the legal zone which has been set out for beach bed umbrellas. Those items encroached on Karon Beach. Many beach beds and umbrellas were seized but no one presented themselves at the beach to show that they were the owners.

Four hours later, about 25 local operators showed up at Karon Municipality. They requested to be allowed to use more of the beach area.

As of press time the request was still being considered.

An umbrella operator was arrested for encroaching on a beach on the Racha Yai Island, south of Phuket.

The Army Region 4 Commander inspected and followed up on beach management in Phuket for the confidence of both tourists and locals.

Freedom Beach in Karon is now cleared of beach beds and umbrellas and structures after a full crackdown.

Restaurants, beach beds, and umbrellas were found by Thaland officials to be encroaching on Lay Phang Beach in Cherng Talay.
