Legal Action Taken Against Illegal Phuket Taxi Driver

Phuket –

Legal action is being taken against an illegal taxi driver operating in front of a shopping mall in Phuket.

The Phuket Land Transport Office (PLTO) told the Phuket Express that on Tuesday (April 4th) relevant officials set up a checkpoint near a shopping mall in Wichit from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.. The inspection came after many legal taxi drivers have been involved in arguments with illegal taxi drivers in this area.

An unidentified taxi driver was found using a personal vehicle to transfer tourists as an illegal taxi (Black Plate). The offending taxi driver will be fined and their driving license will be considered for 90 days of suspension.

The Phuket Express notes ‘Black Plates’ is a term commonly used by the PLTO to call a normal personal vehicle (with a white license plate, ironically) but instead were found being used to transfer passengers as an illegal taxi.
