Krabi –
The Krabi governor has ordered a solution to be found to the problem after taxi drivers in Krabi were found fighting for customers at Krabi Airport.
The Krabi Governor Mr. Passakorn Boonyaluck told the Phuket Express. “We have been informed about a particular violent incident over the past weekend. Taxi drivers were caught on viral video arguing and fighting about who had “ownership” of customers and about supposed “territory” at the Krabi International Airport. We have to prevent this kind of incident as it has damaged tourism.”
“The Krabi Land Transport Office and the Nuea Klong Police are investigating the incident and are trying to find better solutions for the future. This is a high season for tourism due to the Songkran Festival in which many Thai and foreign tourists are visiting the airport. We don’t want this incident to happen again.” The Governor concluded.
Taxi disputes have seemingly increased along with the increase in tourism across Thailand recently, especially disputes between traditional taxi drivers and online companies.
In September of last year taxi drivers fighting over customers and between each other made national news at the Phuket Airport as seen here.
In October 2023 just after the above incident a major altercation between mobile application taxi drivers (Like Bolt) and traditional taxi drivers parked at corners and roadsides also made regional news in Phuket and later national news.
