Large Injured Sea Turtle Rescued on Samui Island

Samui Island, Surat Thani-

A huge, injured hawksbill sea turtle has been rescued after being washed onto a beach on Samui Island.

The Koh Samui Municipality told the Phuket Express that local residents found an injured sea turtle on Ao Phang Gar Beach in Taling Ngam sub-district. The Samui District Chief Mr. Chayaphon Intarasupa went to the beach to inspect the area.

They found a hawksbill sea turtle which was 77 centimeters wide, 80 centimeters long, and weighed 70 kilograms. No microchip code was found on the turtle. A severe wound was found on its shell.

The turtle was taken to the Marine and Coastal Resources Center in the Central Gulf of Thailand at Chumphon for treatment and it will be released back into the sea.
